Why St. Lucia is the Perfect Place for Romance

St Lucia is a leading destination for weddings and honeymoons and after her recent visit, our Travel Consultant Laura Tremblay shares why! From the stunning views to the award-winning resorts, St. Lucia has it all:

St. Lucia is a tropical paradise and the perfect place for a little romance; the mountainous rainforest backdrop is ideal for any wedding venue and the serene vibe of the island will leave honeymooners feeling blissful.

More and more couples are jet-setting down south to tie the knot with their toes in the sand.  But why St Lucia? Globally, St Lucia was the #3 wedding destination ‘Googled’ in 2012 along with supporting words as ‘romantic, relaxing, pristine, intimate and memorable.’ A 5 hour flight from Toronto is nothing to fuss about, especially when you begin your descent and see the famous Pitons out of the airplane window!

The 617 km² island is perfect for exploring the island whether it be by helicopter, boat or private transfer. There is scuba diving, zip-lining, preserved hiking trails, banana plantation tours, health and wellness spas, golfing and much more. The turquoise waters are so clear and so warm you can spend all day in the ocean bathing under the blazing heat from the sunshine above!

Hotels in St Lucia are designed for a wedding market with all possible options you can think of!

Looking for intimacy? Then a 12 room boutique style beachfront hotel will amaze you. Sandals will provide ultimate luxury with your stay, while giving you access to play at three resorts scattered throughout the island.

Interested in health and wellness? Then The BodyHoliday will offer nothing less than complimentary spa treatments daily, yoga classes and healthy food choice options.

The choices are endless and St Lucia will have the perfect accommodation everyone. A wonderful benefit of planning a wedding in St Lucia is that English is the official language on the island, so no dreams will be lost in translation! All hotels have a designated wedding planner on-site and weddings are such a common purpose of travel into St Lucia that the locals have perfected the experience!

Most couples want the same style of a local wedding, but they are looking for a different backdrop that cannot be found at home. Sandals offers Martha Stewart Weddings that any bride and groom can customize online; from the colour of the napkins to the location of their venue. Most resorts throughout the Caribbean will offer very structured wedding themes that cannot be modified. However, Sandals now offers “Your Wedding, Your Style” that will eliminate those generic wedding themes and will allow the couple to completely personalize their special day! The Knot has been able to track their members and over 1.4 million brides register each year to plan their weddings! A good majority of these brides have considered a destination wedding and 39% end up on the beach exchanging vows.

For those couples that have a local wedding, St Lucia is still a top honeymoon destination, particularity for the British, Canadian + American market. My absolute favourite resort is located directly between the Pitons where the white sandy beach connects these 2 national landmarks. Sugar Beach Resort (formerly The Jalousie Plantation) has recently undergone a multi-million dollar renovation and now considered the 2013 Honeymoon Haven by Forbes. With a banana plantation on-site, rainforest treetop Spa and every room offering butler service, this gorgeous and private resort is a perfect honeymoon option. St Lucia is made for romance and the St Lucia Tourism Board works very hard to ensure they are up to par with our ideals of luxury, romance and unforgettable memories.

I highly suggest a visit to St Lucia if you’re looking for paradise, whether it be for a wedding, honeymoon or just an exceptional island experience overall!
